Who We Are
SeeingItaly.com is owned and operated by Stephen Muchiri. This website helps travelers plan meaningful trips to Italy through honest guides, personal recommendations, and practical advice based on our own experiences traveling there with my wife.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or how your data is handled, you can reach me directly through the contact form on this website.
What Information We Collect
I keep things simple. The only information I typically collect from you is what you voluntarily provide.
When you subscribe to a newsletter, leave a comment, or send a message through the contact form, I may collect your name and email address. I do not ask for anything else unless it is clearly stated.
When you simply browse the site, standard technical information may be automatically collected by my hosting provider and analytics tools. This includes your IP address, browser type, approximate geographic location (usually just the country level), and which pages you visit. None of this identifies you personally.
Comments
When you leave a comment on any article, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows me to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Your email address is never published with your comment. It is only used to notify you if your comment receives a reply.
Contact Forms
If you use the contact form to send me a message, I receive your name, email address, and whatever message you write. I keep these messages for as long as needed to respond to your question. I do not add you to any mailing list unless you explicitly ask to be added.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. SeeingItaly.com uses cookies for basic functionality and to improve your experience.
Essential cookies keep the site working properly. Analytics cookies help me understand which articles are most helpful so I can write more of what you actually want to read. Comment cookies save your name and email so you do not have to re-enter them every time you leave a comment.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but some convenience features may not.
Analytics
I use a standard analytics service to understand how people find and use SeeingItaly.com. This tells me which articles are popular, which search terms bring visitors to the site, and roughly where in the world readers are located.
This data is aggregated and anonymized. I cannot see your individual browsing history. I only see patterns across thousands of visitors.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content like YouTube videos, Google Maps, or social media posts. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited that other website directly.
Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. I have no control over their privacy practices. If you are concerned, check their privacy policies directly.
Affiliate Links and Advertising
SeeingItaly.com may include affiliate links. This means if you click a link to a hotel, tour, or product and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
These affiliate programs may set cookies to track referrals. The privacy policies of those affiliate networks apply. I only recommend things I have personally used or would confidently recommend to my own family.
I do not run intrusive pop-up ads or sell your information to advertisers. That is not how I want to run this site.
Email Marketing
If you choose to subscribe to my email newsletter, I will only send you updates when there is something genuinely worth sharing. New articles, personal travel updates, and the occasional resource I think you would appreciate.
I will never sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone else. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This helps me recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
For users who register on the website, I store the personal information provided in the user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What Rights You Have
If you have left comments or provided personal information on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To make such a request, use the contact form on the website.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. That is the only third-party processing of your data that happens by default.
If you use embedded content from other websites, refer to their privacy policies for information on where your data goes.
Children’s Privacy
SeeingItaly.com is not directed at children under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information on this site, contact me and I will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
If I make changes to this privacy policy, I will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes may be announced in a newsletter or site notice. Minor updates for clarity or compliance will happen without fanfare.
The current version is effective as of the date shown above.
Third-Party Links
Occasionally I link to other websites, hotels, tour operators, or restaurants. This privacy policy applies only to SeeingItaly.com. If you click a link to another site, read their privacy policy. I am not responsible for their practices.
Your Consent
By using SeeingItaly.com, you consent to this privacy policy.
